About the Role

We are looking for a proactive, highly detailed, and self-motivated help desk and user support specialist to join our IT team.  This hybrid role entails providing day-to-day technical support and collaborating directly with the IT Manager on technical tasks and critical compliance initiatives, including SOC 2 and NYSDFS requirements.  

As a core member of our IT support team, you will be responsible for providing technical assistance to staff, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and ensuring the smooth operation of our technology infrastructure.    

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the first point of contact for end-users seeking technical assistance via phone, email, or in person.
Diagnose and resolve basic hardware, software, printer, and network connectivity issues.
Set up, configure, and maintain computers, mobile devices, and office equipment, ensuring all devices adhere to security protocols and SOC 2 requirements (e.g., encryption, strong authentication).
Maintain user accounts, password resets, and software access permissions.
Assist in onboarding and offboarding employees from an IT perspective. 
Escalate complex issues to senior IT staff or external vendors when necessary. 
Support and enforce IT security policies and data privacy regulations unique to the insurance industry. 
Perform basic maintenance and updates of office software, including Windows, Microsoft 365, and insurance software applications.
Create and update user guides and support documentation. 
Maintain and update IT documentation and inventories for devices, software, access permissions, and security evidence required for SOC 2 audits. 
Aid in disaster recovery and data backup tasks in line with established SOC 2 controls for availability and data integrity.
Participate in risk assessment activities and support continuous monitoring (e.g., logging, reporting, vulnerability scans) as directed by IT Manager.
Take part in regular security awareness training and provide reminders/guidance to staff as needed. 
Stay informed of technology updates relevant to the life insurance industry.

Requirements

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or relevant coursework/experience).
Basic knowledge of Windows OS, Microsoft 365, DNS, email systems, and standard networking (LAN, Wi-Fi, printers)
Eagerness to learn information security, privacy, and compliance frameworks
Trustworthiness and respect for the sensitive nature of clients and data
Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft, or similar are a plus 
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills 
Meticulous attention to detail 
Outstanding time management 
Ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment 
Strong sense of ownership of projects and tasks 
Excellent interpersonal skills and effective teamwork skills 
Must be able to be resourceful and gracefully handle challenges efficiently 
Ability to organize, prioritize, manage, and meet deadlines on multiple tasks simultaneously
